China will increase the size of its space station 2023

China will increase the size of its space station 2023 , As the NASA-led International Space Station (ISS) approaches the end of its useful life, China wants to increase the size of its space station from three to six modules in the upcoming years, providing astronauts from other countries with an additional platform for near-Earth missions.

The China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), a division of China’s primary space contractor, announced the Chinese space station’s operational lifespan on Wednesday during the 74th International Astronautical Congress in Baku, Azerbaijan.

That would be an extension of the previously stated ten years.  With a capacity of three astronauts and an orbital altitude of up to 450 miles, China’s self-built space station, also known as Tiangong or Celestial Palace in Chinese, has been completely functioning since late 2022

Tiangong, even after its extension to six modules,

It is still only 40% as massive as the International Space Station (ISS), which can house a crew of seven astronauts. However, the ISS, which has been in orbit for more than 20 years, is anticipated to be retired by 2030, around the time China announced its intention to establish itself as “a major space power.” However, the European Space Agency (ESA) announced this year that it did not have the budgetary or “political” green light to participate in Tiangong, delaying a years-long plan for a visit by European astronauts. This was a blow to China’s goals for space diplomacy.

The US-led camp conflict has led to a new space race

This is evident by giving up cooperation with China in the manned space sector, according to a nationalist Chinese tabloid at the time. After being cut off from the ISS, Tiangong has evolved into a symbol of China’s expanding influence and confidence in its space activities, as well as a rival to the United States in the field. US law prohibits it from working directly or indirectly with NASA and China will increase the size of its space station.

Russia, a participant in the ISS, has similar space diplomacy intentions and has suggested that Brazil, India, China, and South Africa, members of the BRICS organization, may build a module for their space station.

Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, said last year it was planning to build a space station comprising six modules that could accommodate up to four cosmonauts.
