Deuba to support Mahantha Thakur as new president
Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) leaders are currently meeting with Sher Bahadur Deuba, the president of the Nepali Congress (NC).
LSP will present Deuba with the name of a new presidential candidate when the election draws near. As parties search for a consensus candidate, the LSP has put Thakur’s name forward for the position of president.
Rajendra Mahato, the leader of the LSP, notified Republica that the top LSP officials will meet with NC President Deuba, a former prime minister, at 9:30 this morning.
The top LSP official met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Baluwatar and CPN-UML President KP Sharma Oli in Balkot on Tuesday, accepting the same suggestion. Major political parties’ top leaders have recently intensified negotiations in preparation for the March 9 presidential election.
